While looking into ways to power a minidisc machine for extended
periods, I came across this web site
ADAM: Acoustic Data for Animal Monitoring
http://forester.uf.a.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~ishiken/e/ADAM/index.html
Details are sketchy, but it appears that a group of Japanese biology
students are working on ways to record and analyse bird song.
Reportedly, they met at the annual meeting of the Ornithological
Society of Japan, in Sept, 2004.
Here's a web page that shows a Hi-MD minidisc recorder plus external
battery mounted to a canopy tower, ready to record all day long.

Does anyone have any information about this project? It could be a
short-lived student project, or maybe the forests of Japan are filled
with minidisc recorders!
I wonder if the claimed re-discovery of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker
using audio data has inspired other student projects?
