Hello naturerecordists

Here is another brief update on www.xeno-canto.org.

Major event: Sjoerd Mayer has decided to contribute his personal
recordings, which is of course fan-tas-tic. We are busy putting them in
the database. When that's finished we=92ll start adding another large set
of recordings, by Sebastian Herzog and Bennet Hennessy.
This has had some impact on the number of recordings and species in the
database: about 2100 and 1000 respectively now. And counting.
The functionality has increased because all background species (whenever
they have been identified) are now an integral part of the database.
This links up many of the recordings in an enjoyable way, and it is very
useful in identifying unknown sounds.
Another change was in the nomenclature: we have replaced the Parker taxa
by their current SACC representatives (most species described after 1995
or so still have to be inserted).

That=92s it, have a look!

Cheers

Bob Planque en Willem-Pier Vellinga
