Mic Pre amps on 670?

Are they bad / noisy or just not as good as they shouldbe??

I see that the Oade brothers have a modification but I am considering
buying a 670 and giving back my Microtrak for credit (about same cost
with some extras coming with the 670)

In most cases I will be receiving a line signal from a Shure mixer
that is not of the highest specs and feeding a digital camera so
mostly pre-amps are not an issue

Apparently the Oade mod doesnot mod the line in so I can assume they
could not improve on them.

I could make the mod  .. I don't want to send the 670 across the
border and then pay taxes on the mods from Oade
