I'm reading a book about the ending of Hitlers Berlin in April 1945. While= driving through, an author, Vasilijev Grossman, stops his jeep and writes in his notebook: "Contradictionary to our picture of Berlin as a military camp, are all the= gardens and all small parks. All over heaven is a great great thunder of artillery, but if silence appears for a short moment, one can hear the birds sing...." Freely translated from Swedish.
