It was fun to get to play with that one. I wish things like the=20
Sonosax and the M-Audio were available at the time. There's lots of=20
neat options for portable recording, and that's good.
I almost bought the R1. With all of it's short comings, it's a neat=20
little thing. I will probably get the M-Audio instead. Since I have a=20
722, I don't need micro rig to emulate all of the functions. I have a=20
pair of Audio Technica Omni Lavs, which run on plug-in-power, so the=20
M-Audio should work great with them. I figure, they worked great with=20
my little Sharp minidisc, they should sound even better on a 24-bit=20
48k recorder. I'm slightly disturbed to learn that the Microtrack=20
supplies 30v phantom. Who's idea was THAT! Will most 48ph mics=20
actually work on 30ph?
Yeah, the Earthworks. It's amazing, on their website, they list those=20
mics as super quiet. And lots of people consider them good test mics.=20
I think it's more that EW mics are really really flat, and they make=20
mics just for testing. Also the tiny capsule is supposed to make a=20
very accurate capsule.
I honestly didn't care for those mics. Nick lent them to me, and I=20
did a test between my Schoeps omni's, and them. I thought they=20
sounded pretty weak. But it's all 'taste'. I certainly thought they=20
were way too noisy for my taste.
