Preliminary reports suggest that only 16 bit functioning is available
currently with the Micro Tracker's digital spdif inputs. This is a
suggestion to me that this product was aimed at a purely amateur consumer
niche market mainly comprised of greasy faced teenagers with guitars and to=
o
much time to play with the parents credit cards. Which doesn't mean to say
that I feel this product may not have it's place in serious recording, it's
just shaping up very "consumer" so far.
As for the state of 24 bit portable recording, I think we can look at the
current technology mainly directed at the same market as the previously
mentioned, where I think we can see a trend of firewire outboard interfaces
that are offering quality preamps that show dynamic ranges of 120db and up.
