Its a Primo EM158. It doesn't appear on the Primo US Web site yet. The US
Primo office is local here in the Ft. Worth/Dallas area.

Its a very small 5.8mm dia electret. It was explained to me that the downside
is that its very small and very delicate. They sent me 5 characterized samples
but I damaged 2 of them just handling them. The case is thinner than paper. I
was also told that it is very susceptable to damage from soldering iron heat. I
use silver-bearing low-temp solder and a temp controlled iron.

Primo Japan calls it a " Ultra High Sensitivity Electret Condenser Microphone".

When I figure out some construction techniques I'll post on the micbuilders
group.

My assumption was correct, the sensitivity is referred to 1V.
Sensitivity is usually quoted "open circuit," but here it's with a 2K
load. That's rather significant given the next,

>3. Impedance = 1.6K at 1kHz

Rather high, but typical for a "raw" electret (like a PIP mic). It
might not be possible to measure the output of a raw electret mic
"open circuit." Anyway, this is one hot little capsule.

>4. SNR = 75 dB at 1 kHz (1 Pa, A weighted)

And that is A-weighted.

>5. Max imput level = 115 dB SPL

That probably depends on the PIP voltage. Good, if it's the same 3V
they note in the sensitivity spec.

Don't know the frequency response, that's important. It's 10dB hotter
than a 183. Hot's always good for nature sounds but you might have
preamp overload with loud sounds. The self-noise is 3dB better than a
183. Sounds interesting, what is it?
