Both mics are likely to have similar noise performance with 19->22 
dB(A) self noise and good output (sensitivity).  If you are 
interested in DIY, lower noise, omni mics (which many nature 
recordists are!), the tip  that Klas dropped about the tweaking the 
EM-23 with the amp he suggests might be "must look into stuff." 
13dB(A) self noise is a considerable drop in noise compared to 
22dB(A). I think the EM-23 with that amp is ~10mV/Pa sensitivity.
