Have you tried any other apps?

I too bit at the sale price, and my favorite recording app,
Audio Hijack Pro, has no trouble running the big meter.

Audacity and Sound Studio didn't find the plugs, but I didn't
work very hard at it yet with those.

Haven't tried Tracktion or Garage Band yet.
