Hi Brian--
Pragmatically, don't you think there are far more people who enjoy
quiet than people who will argue the "right" to make "personal"
disturbances on this scale? Getting the former group to speak up is
the key. There could be places designated for straight-pipe riding
and most would see this as reasonable and economically sound. Michael
Powers is his book , The Economic Pursuit of Quality, argues that the
move to the suburbs in the US was largely motivated by green values
and "quiet" is on top of the list. I raised the possibility of
restricting motorcycle and truck traffic during certain blocks of
time at a recent workshop at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve preserve and
people felt it was a very doable with education efforts in place. We
know that "they" can make good policies when more options are laid
out--- like this region's decision to keep a smaller two lane highway
instead of widening the road and the quieter highways you're
enjoying. Rob D.
