I think one can attach a creative commons license or traditional
copyright to anything you upload to the "open source" page. There are
pretty good FAQs on the site. You can also prevent derivitives (such
as flac, mp3 or ogg vorbis) from being created if you like to keep
only the full bandwidth version.
As Rob points out the site is intended for long term sharing of files.
It's not intended to be used for temporary file sharing as our Yahoo
file space seems to be. The upload method is for people familiar with
FTP operations, it's a multistep process that requires you fill in
some of the metadata, to help define and make it easier for others
find your work. There is also a downloadable program that supposedly
makes the uploads easier (hmm, I hope that makes sense).
