Actually it works pretty well for what it is. I have included some MP3 
samples on the web site. Have a listen. The mic was pointing upward at 
the time of the recording. The parabolic setup, because of its 
directionality, will attenuate some of the ambient sounds and boost 
others. As for wind noises, the parabolic dish may help or hinder 
depending on the direction and speed of  the wind. In some positions it 
will serve to create turbulence around the mic element  that might not 
have been a problem with  the mic alone. By the way, the unbrella used 
in this model is plastic (vinyl I think), not fabric. That makes it a 
little more acoustically opaque to sounds coming from the rear, 
especially those at the higher end of the spectrum.
