Which is why I've so strongly advocated doing sound processing with a
realtime sonogram in play. Then you know if you are cutting into wanted
sound. And you can do a better filtering job.

While I've not analyzed the speech of this species, I'd not be too
surprised if the frequency variation is small. That's the way it is with
mockingbirds, they imitate a wide range of call patterns and
frequencies, but the frequencies they use to do it are very limited. It
is a monotone, and this could be at the root of the problems folks have
understanding your bird. Worth checking anyway.
