There seems to be a lot of hype, and in any case nature recording has a
few different demands. That's way too much to spend on a cable.
Especially as it's probably not weatherproof. Good handling in all
temperatures is also important.

My cables are all Canare Star Quad, excellent cable with excellent
handling characteristics. I looked at all the brands of star quad and
Canare came out on top for me. I've mostly converted to using 5 pin XLR
stereo cables with short Y adapters for the ends, as I record mostly in
stereo. This runs through a single Star Quad cable, so cuts down on bulk
and cable tangling. I use the smaller diameter Canare Star Quad for
longer cable runs, even lighter that way. And regular size Canare Star
Quad for short cables for handheld. The Y's are made by stripping out
the individual cables from Canare Star Quad snake. I use Neutrik X-HD
weatherproof XLR's on the cables and ends of the Y's in the weather, and
the X version at recorder and mic ends. All black, gold pin.

I build my own cables. I've seen inside commercial cables, and building
cables is not at all hard. At least if buying cable, look inside the
connectors and see how they are made. More and more stuff is crimp on,
not repairable. Except by cutting off the old connector and starting
over with a new one.

My cables are hooking up Sennheiser MKH mics, a Telinga parabolic, and
so on. I guess that's high end.

Old worn out ears. But I know how to use a sonogram, and ask others to
listen. Cables are not where the problems are. Even with MKH mics. At
least cables that I use. Cables should be taken care of and inspected.
They are more or less a disposable part of the kit, but can last a long
time if you are careful.
