I just picked up one of these on Ebay. Is there anybody out there
that owns one of these? It's a nice unit from what I can see but as
some may know it is from Japan. The previous owner was kind enough
to download the English version of the manual and had it nicely
bound. One problem though...the software supplied(BeatJam) is in
Japanese and of course will not install on my PC.

I'm not planning on mainly using this unit to download music into it
however, I would like the option to do so. I thought maybe it would
be nice to utilize the music software that it came with (or shall I
say WHEN I find the alternative)and take some recordings that I've
done from my PC and transfer them back to the portable. I travel
quite a bit for work and thought it would be great to listen to my
recordings as I do so. Do I need the BeatJam software that I'm
searching for OR do I simply download the drivers for USB use? I
would imagine I would need the sofware application for transfering.

I read somwhere that there was an English version of the BeatJam
software being that this unit was marketed in Europe (IM-DR580). I'm
starting to believe that non-Japanese people whom use this unit don't
download music into it and simply use it to record...kidding. I
thought the majority of people out there that buy MD units use them
to download their favorite MP3's, ATRAC music into it and use it
strickly as a player. I've searched many MD FAQ's, newsgroups, ect
and can find no info concerning the mystery of the BeatJam software
or transfering music/recordings to the portable unit. Maybe the
solution is right in front of me? Maybe the solution is so simple
I'm overseeing it?

Do most of the MD recordists in this group record their recordings to
PC via RCA cable? OR do some buy a seperate MD standalone component
with digital OUT and upload to PC equipped with a soundcard with
digital IN that way? I do own one of these soundcards and thought of
doing things this way to keep the transfers all digital thoughout.

Anyway...I'm looking forward to using my new MD. Spring is almost
here and we live in a nice secluded part of central Ma which is
wonderful for recording the outdoors. I did build a nice preamp for
the MD utilizing some layout software and a T-Tech machine for the pc
board. I'll keep everybody posted on how it sounds. In the mean
time...PLEASE HELP.

Thanks,

boB
