When I was still using the model with the internal battery, I always
used a NIMH rechargeable to recharge it. When I first started doing that
there was only one brand that had 9.6 volts instead of 7.2. Now there
are several brands that have the correct voltage rechargeable 9 volt NIMH.
The internal battery is a 7.2 volt NIMH. The NIMH 9.6 volt will charge
it at a slightly greater current than the alkaline will (as the alkaline
quickly drops to lower voltage than the NIMH). But it's within tolerance
from the battery manufacturer as near as I could get out of them. 10-12
hours out of the NIMH is well more than enough time. In fact most of the
time I was just connecting for 6-8 hours. And recharging before the
battery was down.
Of course now, with the phantom powered handle on mine, that's history.
Just plug it into the Portadisc and turn on the phantom power. No
separate battery to maintain.
