When I need recording duration, I'm finding the Hi-SP mode to be much
better than mp3.
There are many mac users into field recording. The minidisco.com HiMD
community discussion list lays out some of the hacking issues. I'm
finding PC transfer only a small inconvenience. I multitask transfers
by using another $200 laptop for just this. My converted files are
made onto my normal FW drive using the MacDrive app that allows the
laptop PC to read mac volumes.
The thing about the new models that raises my concerns a bit is the
continued emphasis in chasing the iPod audience. Sony could weaken
recording capabilities very easily with this priority. I'm very happy
with our NH900's cpmpared to other low cost portable recorders out
there. Is there any indication whether Sony fixed the "no manual gain
shortcut?" We never got around to making sure that Sony knows about
and acknowledges our needs. Rob D.
