I think you are too wrapped up in the number. Think about Rycote
windscreens, they give numbers for how much they will reduce wind noise.
I doubt many pay attention to the exact numbers, but what they do know
is those windscreens are very good at wind noise reduction. So they use
them.
Same thing with star quad, I'm sure the number varies somewhat with the
situation and just which brand of star quad. But the one thing it always
does is give a very significant audible improvement in noise over
twisted pair. Whatever the number, it's a great improvement. And in the
case of star quad there is nothing else that is portable and practical
and comes close. Easy choice to make.

It's not magic, just some carefully thought out cable engineering.
Remember what I said about a broken wire in the cable. The impedance
shift is more than enough to damage the sound you want. Always repair or
replace a cable with a broken wire.
I've thought at times about buying a length of the Canare twin wire to
compare, but it is money I'm sure would be wasted. I just ordered some
more of the small diameter star quad in the "magic" blue color.
