Most likely Walt and others are correct in saying that you have the
recording gain turned up too high and you are picking up ambience. Solutio=
n
is to get closer to the wanted subject and don't record on windy days.

And try switching the mic "low-cut" switch to the ON position to give you
some roll off in the lowest frequencies (unless you are recording elephants
or thunderstorms).

However there is an outside chance that you have an faulty K6 module, which
is exactly what happened to me. I had originally purchased two K6 modules
for stereo (using two ME 64 mics). A few years later I purchased a third K=
6
module for my ME67, to save the endless swapping over of capsules all the
time. And the new K6 module had a fault! I only recognized this because I
happened to be using the new module in tandem with one of the original ones=
,
as a stereo pair, and one side was consistently noisier than the other. Ha=
d
I not been able to make this comparison I would not have picked up that
fault. Of course Sennheiser repaired the faulty module under warranty and
it is fine now.

So Julie if you can possibly team up with someone else and borrow their K6
module to make a comparison, that might be worthwhile too.
