This is the recordedr I have. I use mics (studio mics) that need
phantom power, and they draw too much power to use the internal AA
batteries for more than an hour or two (depending on the
temperature). I use a 4 amp-hour 12v lead acid battery for power.
Limits portability (the battery needs it's own fanny pack), but I
can record for days with a fully-charged battery.

The preamp is louder than I'd like, but I haven't compared it to
other recorders except the Creative Jukebox 3 HD recorder, and the
Marantz is a lot quieter than that.
