I agree with Oryoki, this unit could be more generous with the mic preamp, =
I
use the recorder plenty of times and it does what I ask of it.
Some Plus points:
The weight of the unit (half the weight of the Portadisk)
Records in WAV
I like the use of Flashcards for those dawn chorus days, I can set the unit
up and leave it outside for hours and then go back to it (example, I get up
at my house at 3:45am, take it into the woods and leave it there until I ge=
t
up again at 6:00am, wonderful)
Some Dislikes:
Plastic feel to the recorder, feels very cheap)
Mic preamp, have to use the MP2 sometimes for extra gain.
Sometimes if I set the recorder to record in MP3 mode, it will record for 6=
5
seconds and then freeze on me forcing me to remove the battery and reset th=
e
factory settings, I have asked about the bug in it but I am still waiting a=
n
answer, 5 weeks and counting after many e-mails.
This also happens in WAV format.
A great little recorder for the money and one I would buy again. I will be
buying the Sound devices 722 when it hits the streets, simply because of th=
e
size and flashcard facilities.
This is a recoding made today on Cougar Mountain using 2 Sony ecm-55 and th=
e
pmd-670. A long file

Make every Garden a wildlife Habitat!
When the animals come to us,
Asking for our help,
Will we know what they are saying?
When the plants speak to us
In their delicate, beautiful language,
Will we be able to answer them?
When the planet herself
Sings to us in our dreams,
Will we be able to wake ourselves, and act?

Subject: [Nature Recordists] Marantz PMD 670 - Recorders that use Memory
Cards
I'm a newbie so please don't take offense at my ignorance but I would
think a recorder with NO moving parts would be preferential to one
with moving parts. Of course sound quality is the most important
criteria. Has anyone looked at/used/owned a Marantz PMD670 Solid
State Recorder?
