Several programs you might want to consider (especially while you're first
experimenting with editors)
are Audacity (a free-freesoftware program available on the net
(SourceForge, say))
and Goldwave (your can try a free version for a period of time before
paying, and then you'd pay a lot less
that for programs from big distributors). A Google for either name will
produce links to them.
The advantage of trying a few free programs is that you can get a feel for
the features you like and don't like/ use and don't use
before deciding what program you want to use forever and ever. And it could
be that you'd like one of the free ones enough to stick with it, saving $
you could spend on mics, disks, or even food!
