Hi Brian,
For that price ($250) you must be able to buy 2 second-hand Sony MZ-R50
(there are regularly some on sale on eBay for about $100). The MZ-R50 is
an older model, but I find it very well adapted to nature recording :
well protected by its metal case, not too compact and easy to handle
with large buttons, fast enough to start recording... The only drawback
is perhaps the required use of the end-search button when recording... I
have bought 2 through eBay for less than $100 each !
