Mic Question - interesting specs

I was wondering if anyone has tried the CAD M177 or M179 mics? I was
wandering through Ebay's mic listings the other day and for some reason
looked at a auction for one.

These mics look like contestants for ugly mic of the year award. They
are 1.1" diaphragm side address mics. The CAD M177 is a cardioid, the
M179 is a infinitely variable multi-pattern. They are phantom powered,
can tolerate phantom being as low as 24 volts, but require 8ma. Instead
of using a FET, they use a Op-amp. But the spec that caught my eye was
the self noise. For the M177 that's 10dBA, for the M179 that's 11dBA.
That's down in the class with MKH mics in that respect, and these mics
can be had new for less than $150.

I'm not making a recommendation as I know nothing about them, just
pointing them out in case someone is interested, or knows more about
them. I'm betting there will be something wrong with them for nature
recording.
