Thanks for informing us of this recorder.

The web page
http://www.fostex.com/index.php?file=3Dproducts/dat_dvd/fr2 states "Takes
'off-the-shelf' AA-size NiMH batteries for approx. 2 hours field
operation (Compact Flash)".

Presumably using the hard drive will draw more current, and run for
less time.  This is a major limit to it's field usage without an
external battery pack, in my opinion.=20

I would have preferred they chose 2.5" hard drive instead of 1.8" as
larger capacities are available in the 2.5" form factor, and the cost
per gigabyte is significantly less for 2.5".  An IBM/Hitachi 40GB 2.5"
can be had for $180 ($4.5 per GB), vs. a Toshiba 1.8" 5GB for $147
($29.4 per GB).
