Fostex's web pages claim that they invented timecode sync. I think the case is 4 inches high to leave room for the timecode plug-in card. If you don't purchase the timecode card, then you have a nice warm place to keep a sandwich :-) The size and weight of the FR-2 compromise it for field use.
