I am new to this group and to the interest. I have bought, and yet to
receive a Dan Gibson parabolic mic I saw advertised on ebay - I have
since heard that this is not a very good piece of equipment - and is
"noisy" - is this correct ? - I gather that a piece of kit is available
which will improve the performance and supress the extraneous sounds.
Can someone please tell me what this is ? I will be using a Sony MD
(MZ-R50) ; I was also recommended a Sony ECM-Z37C camcorder mic to get
into the hobby and learn with.. is this a good option ? I have yet to
purchase the Sony mic put have seen sources - mainly in the US who can
ship to Europe.

I have given up sailing and sold my Laser dinghy and figured this was an
interest I could get involved with together with my wife , (who never
liked sailing !). I am using the cash from the boat to buy the
equipment so I do not have a lot to spend.

The Dan Gibson parabolic mic is being shipped from Connecticut and is in
transit right now - can I use it straight into the MD - ? I believe
it requires independent power source - ( 2 x alkaline batteries..is this
correct ?) Realise this is `60`s technology and not state of the art !

In the audiences` view would I be better putting the parabola back up
for sale right away on ebay when I receive it in the UK in a few days
time !!! Your comments please.. regards, Bill Kerr, Seaford,
Sussex, UK

(if anyone has any spare equipment (mics) they want to sell me get in
touch) regards..
