Thanks for the kind words, Martyn. Actually, Rudy lost weight. We 
could hardly see him after a few days in the field. As for the mics, 
except for one site (as noted at Buckeye Flats where the position was 
moved once abt 20m away from the intense stream noise), the mics were 
set in the same position each time a recording was made.

Stuart Gage was reording at Crescent Meadow in the Fall of 2001 one 
evening, when a black bear began to nose around his mic system (MS - 
MKH 30/40 combo). We actually have a stereo surround recording of 
what it's like to be INSIDE a bear's mouth for some period of 
time...a sober reminder of the last thing one would be likely to hear 
if the mic were your head, instead. MP3s available, for those brave 
enuf to endure extreme nature sounds.
