And using the HHb Portadisc as your recorder you also get real-time
transfer via USB, as well as optical digital and coax digital.

The Portadisc is a pro level MD, quite a bit more money than the
consumer MD portables. A excellent recorder if you can afford it.

None of these methods are like copying files. In all of them you play
the recording, and run recording software on your computer to get it
into a computer audio file. A MD more closely resembles a audio CD in
it's data organization.

You should, if doing analog transfer, use the MD's line out to line in
on the computer, if they have those.

As far as building a homemade parabolic, I have a page showing one
concept on that:
http://frogrecordist.home.mindspring.com/docs/quickparabolic.html
I recorded for a number of years with a homemade before buying the
Telinga parabolic I now use. There is nothing complex about building
one, just a reflector, something to hold the mic in the focus, and
something for you to hold it up with.
