One situation where MD is superior to DAT is for recording in the tropics. DAT's tape transport is very susceptible to clogging in conditions with high humidity and dust. I've seen many tears of frustration shed over DAT gear that quits in the middle of a trip. You'll need to perform regular preventive maintenance to keep a DAT machine working under tropical conditions. The MD seems to keep functioning regardless. --oryoki ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |
