International!

Subject: International!

When talking about environmental problems, sound pollution etc, I think it
is a topic for this group. But then the discussion must be international.

Let me take a practical example:

Where I live is a very quiet area, even though it is "central". It takes me
only 20 minutes by car to the nearest service area, with post, bank, shops
etc. There are many such places in Sweden, especially in the northern
region. Even if there is noise, you can find "holes" with silence, at night=
s
and early mornings.

But now we are building a new high way about 3 miles from here. This means,
I fear, that one car every 10 minutes will put the entire area under
constant noise. No "holes" any longer.

Which pressure group is active on the topic of sound dampening walls around
the road?? Answer: None.

I have been calling the road company, of course. They shake their heads and
think I'm crazy. As long as people can sleep at nights, all seems to be oka=
y
by common standards. They are not mean or greedy or evil, they just don't
understand! No one has ever talked to them as I do, about "sound pollution"=
 etc.

And what about road surface?? The road companies have standards and there i=
s
a lot of know how about it. Especially the car manufacturers spend millions
of money on making cars silent and comfortable, but what about the problems
that we face?
Which pressure group is active on such a topic? Answer: None, because such
an international pressure group does not exist, not to my knowledge.

Why? I think that's a relevant question in this group. It should be us,
shouldn't it? Who else know about it as we do?

Klas.
