I'm off on a trip to Amazonia soon and am preparing playback tapes using my own and commercial recordings. Previously I have always managed to play audio CDs on the computer and record the sound as a .wav file using Cool Edit. Since then I've changed O/S and added a digital sound card and this doesn't work any more for some mysterious reason. I've managed a fix by playing the CD with one sound card and recording it on the second via a cable from the headphone outlet on my speakers to the line-in socket but this is very clumsy. I've read here about 'ripping' CDs to the computer hard disk. What simple and cheap software is available for PCs?
