The focus globe of almost any parabolic would be larger than the lav 
mics. It's not really a problem.

I certainly agree there are better mics, but for a low budget start, one 
of the sony lavs is going to be hard to beat costwise, and will do a 
decent job.

I agree with all of these if you have more money. In the case of the MKH 
mics a power supply will be necessary to use them with a walkman MD.

I am curious about one thing, have you then come up with a circuit to 
replace the one in the telinga handle? Otherwise the telinga element is 
not going to do much.
