It's really hard to tell, and depends on who you define as part of the
group. Is the person who occasionally records birds at their feeder part
of it? Even if they only do that once with with a dictation recorder?
Many people casually record nature. If you include all the folks
carrying video cameras in parks and such like it would be a very large grou=
p.

Some indication can be found in how many have found and signed up for
this group. Just checking it's up to 332 today. That's probably still
only a small part of even the dedicated nature recordists, though a
large part of the important names are here. In particular the scientific
types are underrepresented to my mind. Many of those record calls as
part of their work but not a major part of their work. Bioacoustics
folks, of course it's the major part of their work.
