Mark,
I have the Sony PCM-M1, which I think is the same recorder except
with configurable copy protection mode. I'm
interested in the same question you are.
I have not had much luck finding any details on the remote control
unit. B&H Photo Video in New York City had carried it about six
months ago. I think I need to spend some more time probing Sony Pro
Audio Parts and Service directly. I tried a S/PDIF to RCA output
cable from Core Sound (found on the Web) but the pin spacing was not
even close. The row of four pins on the cable were spaced equal to
three of the pins on the M1's 7-pin connector. They accepted my
return, but insisted that I could have "forced" it in.
Instead, I have temporarily jury rigged a cable based on a continuity
check of the core sound cable using a common style high speed coax
data cable soldered between an RCA connector and a couple of minature
gold pins. It seems to work without any issues with my Echo Mia
audio card. I have probably transferred about ten hours of material
so far. I can identify the output pins I'm using if you wish. I
would like to find a wiring diagram though - I suspect there are
probably dry-contact type control lines to control the transport. I
will send out another message asking if anyone has the wiring
diagram. I suspect Sony Parts and Service would be able to provide
one. I just have not had a chance to ask yet.
