What brand of disc were you using and was it a new disc or an erased one?

Have you tried recording a full disc since your problem? If not I would
record a full disc to see if the problem repeats. If it does you probably
have a machine problem that will require returning the unit to Sony.

I have never had this kind of a problem on any of the three Sony recorders
I own.
