FW: Honeyeater migration

I've seen lots over my place in Watson (approx 80 this morning) & a lot more feeding on the western side of Mt Majura. On good clear days there have been regular flocks of 20/30 moving over my house.

The migration seemed very busy in the warm calm fortnight around Easter, and less so since.

 

It would not be surprising if there were far fewer birds to migrate, given that the honeyeaters had the double whammy of severe bushfires through much of their summer breeding grounds and also through vast swathes of their winter feeding areas. I can imagine that it would take a number of good breeding years to build up to pre-fire numbers again.

Many thanks to all those who responded.  While some observers counted numbers similar to those seen on the COG outing and by Michael Robbins, no-one seems to have yet reported numbers in the same order as Lindsay and others have counted in past years.   Jack Holland
