Field trips July-Dec 2021

Dear members

Many thanks to my regular leaders who have volunteered to lead trips during the remainder of 2021.

I still have the following dates available and hope some of our many other members might volunteer to lead an outing:

• July 4 (and/or July 11 and July 25)
• Aug 15
• Sep 19
• Sep 26
• Nov 7
• Dec 5
• Dec 12

Some suggested locations, either because COG hasn't visited for some years or because they were burnt in the fires and it would be good to check out the recovery, are:

• Mt Rogers Reserve, Spence
• Tharwa Sandwash
• Wanniassa Hills NR
• Googong/London Bridge
• Monga NP - does anyone know if it is worth a visit?
• Bungonia Gorge
• Namadgi NP - now most areas are open

This is the first year that I have planned the field trip programme for just 6 months in advance, so it is now time to think about where we will go from July to the end of 2021.  Therefore, I am looking for leaders to take us to some interesting and new birding locations.  You do not need to be an experienced birder; you just need to know of a suitable location which may be your favourite birding spot.  There will always be knowledgeable members to help you with bird ID.

Just a few guidelines for those who have never led a trip:

• trips are usually held on a Sunday but Saturday is fine
• longer trips can be for a weekend, a long weekend, mid-week or even longer
• most trips are for a morning (in or close to Canberra) but a full day is also fine (and could be as far as Goulburn, Braidwood, Tallaganda, etc)

The following dates may be useful to know:

• School holidays end Term 2 - ACT - 4-19 July; NSW - 26 June-11 July
• School holidays end Term 3 - Act - 26 Sep-11 Oct; NSW - 18 Sep-4 Oct
• Labour Day long weekend - 9-11 Oct
• COG Blitz - 23-24 Oct
