At 3:00 this afternoon, as the sun came out, I heard a repetitive
cheep cheepeating call coming from the garden and saw a Striated Pardalote perched on the house guttering regaling the surroundings with its continuous call. About three minutes later it flew to a tree 25 metres away, perched and resumed calling. I settled
down in a sheltered nook out of the breeze and watched as it moved between house and tree for some 20 minutes, calling incessantly from each perch. I remembered McComas Taylor’s novel but apt description of the call as
Paul Keating, Paul Keating in his nifty little book, Field
Guide to the Birds of the ACT.(1st edition)
