Hi all,
This will certainly be old news for some, but newer COG-listers who may have had occasion to ponder the classificatory relationship between honeyeaters, sunbirds and hummingbirds (as I was quite recently) may be interested in the following piece
from 2008, which provides some very accessible and useful commentary on a taxonomy paper concerning the re-classification of some (former) Hawaiian honeyeaters, and on the role of convergent evolution (best to copy and paste the URL):
