Nice to be reminded of Grrlscientist's' wonderful writing in blogs until 2010, and a short while after in the Guardian.  Worth revisiting https://scienceblogs.com/author/grrlscientist for some similarly excellent interpretations of modern biology / birdy research.
Something went wrong with the scienceblogs, and as an aside she had other blogs regretting the positon of postdocs in science research, especially for women. She has used a penname Hedwig Pöllöläinen, but nothing recent  for that name or grrlscientist found in google.
If anyone knows of more recent writings (and under what name), could they share ?

Hi all,

This will certainly be old news for some, but newer COG-listers who may have had occasion to ponder the classificatory relationship between honeyeaters, sunbirds and hummingbirds (as I was quite recently) may be interested in the following piece from 2008, which provides some very accessible and useful commentary on a taxonomy paper concerning the re-classification of some (former) Hawaiian honeyeaters, and on the role of convergent evolution (best to copy and paste the URL):
