Sorry Geoffrey, Carwoola is a fizzer for Glossies.  I have only had 2 records of Glossies in the 11 years since I've been out here.  There are a few recent mutterings in the community about sightings (I suspect stirred up by the photos in the notice from ACT Parks emphasising the yellow face rather than the red tail panels) but nothing yet I'd regard as proven.  I put up a photo from the COG Photo Gallery clearly showing the red tail and the mutterings have stopped.

There used to be proven sightings at Boro (SE of Tarago), Majors Creek and Scotts Nature Reserve (East of Bungendore) but:
  •  no records for the first two sites have been submitted to eBird; and
  • the third is an OEH dream as the Reserve is now surrounded by hobby farms and there is no access by the inconvenient public.  Of course the Rangers - if they visit - never put in records to a public system.
People are planting the required Allocasuarina but it is going to be a long while before they produce enough cones to attract the Glossies.

Thanks Ryu, Philip, Kym.

I note the reference to ‘dropping she-oak trees’.  Exercise care when looking for these birds.

The question is:  what is the nearest to Canberra a GBC has been seen in the last 3 years?

I believe they can still be found around the Tallaganda Ridge.

Perhaps Carwoola is a good spot.
