The possibility of the birds breeding has only been raised since yesterday (and at that time the tracks into the grass were not extensive).  However it might be time for Michael to put up one of his'stay out of this area signs'.

I have hypothesised in this blog post that while the species has been recorded South and West of its usual zone that only appears to have been one bird at a time so an extension of breeding if proven would be a biggie.

Another job for Michael or his henchpersons could be removing the tree that's fallen over the concrete path between Fulica and Tadorna hides.

The birds certainly seem as if they are guarding a nest.  I was a little alarmed this morning to note that, since the birds were rediscovered last Saturday, paths have been trampled into the tall grass where the birds now are which seems rather unethical to me, especially as the birds are very visible and highly photographable from the mown area.  Anyone should be able to see them, without disturbing any possible nesting, by staying out of the tall grass.  Surely we would all like this to be a successful breeding event.

On looking at David Reece’s video taken this morning, see email to chatline at 1:01pm today, we both wonder if the bird in the video has a brood patch. What do others think?
