Swifties in Ainslie

6 birds seen as they departed to the NE at about 1420 this afternoon.  They had been calling from a gum on the house side of the drain about 100m N of Foveaux St (ie just past the flowering euc).

There are now quite a few places that people might report the birds: COG DB, COG chatline, eBird, ALA, birding-aus although I suspect COG chatline and eBird are the main contenders.

Hi all

Great that so many people are getting to see them, it is a little hit or miss though. I am keeping track of them for a report to Birdlife, so keep reports coming. The maximum I have seen is 12 – but suspect there are a few more.

The tall flowering eucalypt  in the nature reserve that they occasionally visit is a Yellow Gum (Eucalyptus leucoxylon).

Steve

I counted at least 10 this morning at the same site (6.30am to 8ish). They sat perfectly in the Yellow Box as the sun rose. Terrific views of the birds. Agree, there are juveniles amongst them.

Around 4.20 I observed 5 adult Swift Parrots coming to the flowering tree north of the Fouveaux Street entrance to Mt Ainslie. They moved around the immediate area in the next half an hour or so and were joined by another 4 birds, including at least two immatures (pale undertail coverts). Around 10 Superb Parrots inc immatures were also present.
