The back story for this one, straight from the bird's beak:

'Kelly's used to be a great spot for us Zosterops thingies thanks be to Baron Von Mueller, Hero of Australia's Zosteropidae. Not only that, but the fruit were within easy photographic distance of Kelly's best hide. Win Win. But then Ranger Michael ruined everything by cutting down our breakfast, lunch and dinner (or tea for your lower class birds). Not to worry. We ingested some seeds and have deposited same with small amounts of fertiliser.'

Great ideas from all, but on the basis that the hide should be named after a local bird, and with its initial letter not A, B, C, F or T (as these are taken for the existing hides), then from the current suggestions Porzana, Gallinago and Zosterops remain.  I guess Rostratula  doesn’t flow so easily off the tongue, and would raise expectations too high!  And Zosterops, while maintaining the reverse alphabetical order C, B, A, Z as one goes anti-clockwise around the swamp, isn’t a bird particularly characteristic of Kellys. I’d vote for Porzana or Gallinago.

These have a nice ring to them:

Porzana
Gallinago
Cisticola

As those who have visited Jerra Wetlands recently will have noticed a new screen and hide is being constructed at Kellys Swamp. My understanding is the existing 5 hides were named (officially or otherwise) by COG or a COG member. I therefore ask the group to come up with a suitable name for the new hide.

Current names at Kellys are Ardea, Bittern, Cygnus and the two on Jerra Creek are tadorna and fulica. Will see what the response is but maybe you can hold a vote at the next indoor meeting after we have a list of candidates ?
