Great ideas from all, but on the basis that the hide should be named after a local bird, and with its initial letter not A, B, C, F or T (as these are taken for the existing hides), then from the current suggestions Porzana, Gallinago and Zosterops remain. I guess Rostratula doesn’t flow so easily off the tongue, and would raise expectations too high! And Zosterops, while maintaining the reverse alphabetical order C, B, A, Z as one goes anti-clockwise around the swamp, isn’t a bird particularly characteristic of Kellys. I’d vote for Porzana or Gallinago. Steve From: Geoffrey Dabb [ Sent: Tuesday, 12 May 2015 4:47 PM To: Subject: FW: [canberrabirds] name the new hide at Kellys Vulpes? Pseudonaja? Aedes? My understanding is the existing 5 hides were named (officially or otherwise) by COG or a COG member. I therefore ask the group to come up with a suitable name for the new hide. Current names at Kellys are Ardea, Bittern, Cygnus and the two on Jerra Creek are tadorna and fulica. Will see what the response is but maybe you can hold a vote at the next indoor meeting after we have a list of candidates ?
