Bigger Lens

Hi David
I had the Sigma 500mm zoom and found it to be a flexible and useful lens. However I have chatted to a couple of people who had the Sigma and who have since moved onto the latest Tamron and who are very positive about the latest Tamron. They reckoned that it was the best value for money in the range. (I haven't used it myself). People were very kind in allowing me to try different lenses so you might be able to find someone who can show you what is possible with the Tamron and the Sigma before you buy.
I did weights in the gym for a year to build up my upper body strength before getting my current rig which weighs 5kg plus 2.2kg for the tripod. I am 66, but have no difficulties with using it, handheld or on the tripod.
I suggest that you go online and check the reviews. Some of them are sort of captured but many of them are excellent.
regards
Con

I find my tolerance to weight has dropped with age. I went micro 4/3rds sometime ago. My Panasonic GH4 body plus a Panasonic 100-300 f/4 - 5.6 lens weighs just over 1 kg all up. On a full frame that lens is equivalent to a 200-600 mm lens.  A Canon 600mm F4 is a much better lens of course, but it weighs just under 4 Kg (not including a camera body) and costs $12K!!!!!.

Hi to all the COG photographers.  I am thinking of getting a larger lens for my camera (Canon 7Dii).

As much as I would love to, I don't think I will ever afford any of the BIG Canon lens, so I am wondering if anyone has experiences with the SIGMA or TAMRON offerings (150-600mm lens).
