Feeling I had let down the wotsit tradition with the quick get of the sliver of A. S. Drake, I felt obliged to quickly administer something  a little more difficult.  I quickly put together some rather similar streaky slivers. There’s nothing particularly clever about this.  The main thing is, however slight the clues, there must be sufficient information that seen at a large enough scale enables an identification.  It becomes so much easier of course if the whole image is in view.  The 4 upper images below were those involved here  -  female triller, juv figbird, juv oriole, imm male ruf whistler.  When Mr Nice Guy was out of the room a decision was made to use the figbird.  Not local you say?  In fact this is the very bird recorded in Richard Allen’s Curtin backyard a few years ago that saw the species placed on the Canberra list.  You would need to know that and make use of the bit of eye ring shown. Difficult, yes, but Richard got it of course. John Rawsthorne was also on the scent.   Most people got the Rufous Whistler.  This would have been more difficult if I used a female (eg W2 or W3 but couldn’t lay my finger on those quickly).  Richard got them all but called the triller a juv rather than female.  I think I’m right there.  The bird was carrying food and females can have slight streaks as shown in T2.  The juvs I’ve seen are highly variable though, an example being at T3.  Thanks to all those who had a go.

A good effort to get that. I wish though that people would respond privately to questions put as a quiz (as distinct from those questions put to get an answer). So that others can get more out of the quiz. I hope others don't disagree with me making that distinction or should we have a protocol?

I saw the answer before having time to think for myself what it was likely to be (but I have been out to the shops for an hour).

Can’t go past that.  Some people are just, kind of, shoveler people. Extra point to shorty for getting the spelling right
