One of the diversions tried by photographers when just a little bored with photographing birds is to attempt photographing different species together. The following attempts are from this morning on Rocky Knob, a convenient suburban dog-walking space, dotted with large eucs, as the sun was just breaking free of the low cloud. The first, I will admit, does not have any birds in it. It is Martin Butterfield’s ‘Nearly, [It’s T] ime’ hot air balloon in close juxtaposition to you know what. The second snap shows Mr GG being touched by the morning sun while having his breakfast of boxthorn watched by a you know what. This illustrates the common experience of the juxtaposing snapper that one subject is very likely going to be out of focus, probably seriously. This is also the case with the next offering. About a dozen lorikeets were noisily feeding in the yellow box in loose association with about the same number of gang-gangs. ‘Ah, hah’, I thought, ‘here is an opportunity to photograph these 2 species in juxtaposition’ (note grey blob in upper corner). But wait! If you look at the grey blob in the 4th snap you might notice that all was not as it first seemed. [to be continued]
