Nice find. Reckon it's a Beautiful Leaf Moth caterpillar (Gastrophora henricaria) see

The species does occur locally although I'm not sure how common it is, I can only remember seeing one adult moth. The adult insects are possibly even more impressive than the caterpillars.

What plant was it on? They are known to feed on various Myrtaceae.

This was on one of the plants in our garden this morning. Its stick-like camouflage is rather impressive.
